Product Care
How to burn a candle and keep a fragrance at its best.
Burning a candle
- Always follow the product-specific safety label supplied with your candle; if the label differs from this guide, follow the label.
- On the first burn, let the wax melt evenly across the full surface only within the maximum burn time on the label, to prevent tunnelling.
- Stop burning when the manufacturer's minimum wax level remains — usually about 1 cm of wax — and never let the candle burn down to the base.
- Follow the wick advice on the label. If the label asks you to trim the wick, trim it to the length it states (often about 5 mm) before each burn, and remove any debris from the wax.
- Never burn a candle for longer than four hours at a time, or for longer than the label allows if that is shorter.
- Let the candle cool completely before you handle or move it.
- Burn on a heat-resistant surface, away from draughts, children, pets and anything flammable, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
Keeping a fragrance
- Store fragrances upright, away from direct sunlight and heat, to protect the composition.
- Keep the cap on when not in use.
- Apply to pulse points; avoid rubbing, which can alter how the fragrance develops.
When a candle is finished
Once the wax is spent, clean the vessel with warm soapy water and reuse it as you wish. Do not pour leftover wax down a drain.
